紫薇是我们熟悉的落叶灌木,可您知道还有一种几乎可托于手掌上的袖珍矮紫薇吗?它是近年来由欧洲、日本等地引进的一个紫薇品种。当年播种小苗株高6～10厘米时即发生分枝,3年生苗在不修剪的条件下有10多个分枝,且株冠整齐,所以又称为多分枝紫薇或多花紫薇。它具备普通紫薇花期长、花色多的特性,其中一个花瓣内深外浅的花色比较有特点。与普通紫薇不同的是,它的花序是松散的圆锥花序,不如普通紫薇规整。
