Lupus erythematosus (LE) is one of autoimmune diseases which could be classified, according to the spectrum of severity, into the chronic discoid type (DLE), profundal type (PLE), subacute skin type (ScLE), systemic type (SLE), overlap type (OLE) and its subtype, i.e., mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD). The injury of mild LE is limited mainly at the local skin, with systemic symptoms only seen in few patients; but in severe cases, it could involve internal visceras including kidney, heart, liver, lung and the nervous system. Patients often reveal protracted systemic symptoms like fever, weakness, arthralgia, etc. LE frequently occurs in young females sensitive to light and with high blood level of auto-antibody. In present years, LE has aroused more attention in the field at home and abroad since its morbidity shows a continuously elevating trend.
