呼吸锻炼在我国源远流长,先秦时期,道教创始人之一的庄周,就把吐故纳新作为养生益寿的方法。他说:“人之生也,气之聚也,聚则为生,散则为死。”道教养生提倡辟谷食气,所谓食气就是指呼吸锻炼。东晋葛洪在《抱朴子》中指出:“善行气者,内以养生,外以却恶。”《云笈七签》中说:“人与物类,皆禀一元之气而得生成,生成长养,最尊最贵者莫过于人之气也。”“元气减耗,命将竭也。”
