The Chinese government’s tough stance on the importation of a widely used domestic feed ingredient in the domestic market has impacted the cereal and soybean markets. According to industry veterans and traders, China has cut its purchases of dried distillers grains from the United States in recent weeks, fearing that it may contain GMOs that have not been approved by the Chinese government. Dried distiller’s grains are a by-product of ethanol production that can be used for cattle and pig feed. Prior to this, China also reduced its imports of U.S.-made corn and also worried about the above-mentioned genetically modified ingredients.
