The article uses the spatial Gini coefficient to measure the degree of industrial agglomeration in 29 industries in the Pearl River Delta manufacturing industry from 1993 to 2007. The results show that the industrial agglomeration degree in most industries in the Pearl River Delta region has risen, while that in some industries has declined. The concentration and trend of change in different industries are obvious. On the one hand, the emerging agglomeration of capital and technology-intensive industries rises and occupies the forefront of the agglomeration rankings, while the concentration of traditional industries drops significantly. Differentiation among industries is clearly a phenomenon that has been found in the specific stage of industrial restructuring and economic restructuring in the Pearl River Delta. CR3 analysis shows that several cities such as Foshan, Guangzhou and Shenzhen have the most frequent occurrences in the CR3 rankings, which are the cities with a higher degree of diversification and stronger industrial competitiveness. At the same time, the index of specialization of cities in each city from 1993 to 2007 was also calculated. The result shows that the degree of specialization in the Pearl River Delta has been raised. The article also uses the method of cointegration test to analyze the relationship between agglomeration index and industrial output value and finds that industrial agglomeration has a long-term positive effect on industrial growth.
