十九世纪末、二十世纪初菲律宾独立战争时期,有一个著名的华侨将军,叫何塞·伊格纳西奥·宝华。尽管在中国和菲律宾都有一些关于他的传记材料,有关这位华侨名将的生平事迹,至今还是鲜为世人所知;而所见资料也说法不一。我们在撰写此文的时侯,及时收到了菲律宾马尼拉提奥多罗·马·卡劳国立图书馆塞拉芬·基纳森馆长和菲律宾大学历史系主任萨穆艾尔·陈博士寄来的菲律宾出版的有关这位将军的传记资料数份,从而使我们对他的认识更为详实。在此衷心感谢菲律宾朋友。
At the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, during the Philippine War of Independence, there was a famous overseas Chinese general named Jose Ignacio BAUER. Although there is some biographical material about him in China and the Philippines, the story of the life of the overseas Chinese star is still unknown to the world so far; the information we have seen varies widely. At the time of writing, we promptly received a letter from Selafin Kynaon, Director of the State Library of Theodore Malo Kourawi, Manila, Philippines, and Dr. Samuil Chan, Director of the Department of History, University of the Philippines Of the total number of biographical data published by the Philippines about the general so that our knowledge of him is more detailed.
