After China joined the WTO, China’s position in the world economy has become increasingly important. This paper evaluates the status and evolution of China and Japan in the global industrial chain through the Global Value Chain (GVC) model based on the World Input-Output Table under the framework of value-added accounting and inter-industry production lead to production. The results show that after years of development, the status of China and Japan in the global value chain has been exacerbated. Although China’s contribution to global GVC is still at a relatively low level, its contribution has been increasing year by year, and China’s industrial value chain has gradually risen to the high end.
