Albert Einstein once declared that he never considered the future. “The future is around for the moment,” he said. The “foreign policy” decided not to allow the 16 most important thinkers to enjoy this non-thinking luxury (electing 11 thinkers here). Instead, to commemorate the 35th anniversary of its founding, let them speculate on the concepts, values and institutions that people regard as a matter of course but may disappear in the next 35 years. Their responses vary from one area to another, ranging from ethics and religion to geopolitics and technology. We may be happy to see some such “endangered species” exit, but others will feel sad. All these areas will leave traces.
