在决定采用何种土壤管理措施才最适于某一果园时,应考虑柑桔植株的生长模式。一些研究者提出,这种模式受土壤含水量的差异或灌溉周期的节律的影响。但另一些学者则证明了根和枝梢的生长周期受季节变化和温度影响而交替地出现。例如,wutscher(1973)发现,酸橙实生苗根和枝梢的旺盛生长出现在土温23.9℃和26.7℃之间,面土温在10℃时则不生长。其他研究者也报道,25℃是柑桔根系生长的近最适土温。了解各生长周期出现的时间,对于制定一套最佳土壤管理措施是很有助益的。倘若必须进行中耕,应在根系旺盛生长开始以前就完成;倘若需要施肥,则应在仲冬或春季根、枝旺盛生长以前几周施用。灌溉的时期与强度也要考虑到根系、枝梢的生长周期,在根与枝生长最活跃时,增加灌溉次数和灌溉水用量(或二者之一)可能是适宜的。
Citrus plant growth patterns should be considered when deciding what soil management practices to apply to a particular orchard. Some researchers suggest that this model is affected by differences in soil moisture or the rhythm of the irrigation cycle. However, other scholars have proved that the growth cycle of roots and shoots alternated by seasonal changes and temperature effects. For example, Wutscher (1973) found that the vigorous growth of seedlings and shoots of limes occurred at soil temperature between 23.9 and 26.7 degrees Celsius and no soil surface temperature at 10 degrees Celsius. Other investigators also reported that 25 ° C is the most suitable soil temperature for citrus root growth. Understanding the timing of each growth cycle can be helpful in developing a set of best soil management practices. If cultivated land must be cultivated, it should be completed before the vigorous growth of the root system begins. If fertilization is needed, it should be applied a few weeks before the mid-winter or spring root growth. Irrigation periods and intensities should also take into account the growth cycle of roots and shoots and may be appropriate to increase the number of irrigation and the amount of irrigation water (or both) when the root and shoot growth are most active.
