Objective To understand the characteristics of sensory gating (SG) inhibition of P50 in autistic children. Methods Auditory P50 was measured in 37 children with autism and 30 normal children by using Nicolet Bravo electroencephalography (USA). The auditory stimulus (S1) -test stimulus (S2) pattern was used. Results The P50 inhibition of autism group was significantly weakened; the amplitude of S2-P50 amplitude was increased (2.5 ± 2.0) μV in normal control group and (4.9 ± 3.1) μV in autism group, P <0.01]. Compared with the control group, S1-P50 in autism group decreased (5.7 ± 3.7) μV in normal control group and (3.0 ± 2.4) μV in autism group, P <0.01]. P50 inhibition was significantly reduced, that is, the S1-S2 ratio decreased significantly (3.9 ± 2.7 μ μV in normal control group and 1.5 ± 1.1 μV in autism group, P <0.01). Conclusions There is also an abnormal SG in autism, manifested as insufficient inhibition.
