There is evidence that H. pylori is a pathogen of peptic ulcer disease and that this disease can also be cured by eradicating this bacterium. Helicobacter pylori was previously thought to be the causative agent of duodenal ulcers and recent studies have confirmed its important role in gastric ulcer.
