在南北两面黄土高坡的夹峙下,九曲黄河蜿蜒流入兰州这片开阔的谷地。缓缓流淌的河水在东北角向南伸出一只手臂,宽松地围揽出黄河上游第一座大岛。这里,过去的果园、农田和菜地而今成为开发区,拔地而起的一座17层建筑——甘肃省档案馆就坐落其间。甘肃省档案馆1956年开始筹建,1959年10月正式开馆,原址在市区牟家庄并在郊区建有后库。2004年易地重建迁入现址。
