清代武科亦为选士一途,严定应试资格,以别流品而重名器。清代曾准应考武乡试者有文、武生员,文、武监生,绿营武职、兵丁,以及八旗子弟、恩袭世职。清代武乡试应试资格之规定,既体现旗民之别,八旗内部又有汉军与满蒙之别、京旗与驻防之别。八旗子弟不以武科为晋身要途,故此项旨在选拔武将之体制,并不鼓励本应擅长骑射的满洲、蒙古人参与,反以汉人及原本族属亦多为汉人之汉军驰骋武场,弋取武科功名。
