Due to the influence of scientific and technological progress in the construction industry and the increasing influence of the process of centralized, specialized, and integrated production, the nature of activities of large US contractors has changed. Since the 1960s, most contractors have given up the contract system that only signed construction projects. Most of the large contracting companies now appear in the construction market as design agencies, as well as consulting agencies for the design, management, and construction of related buildings. These companies also tend to produce wholly or partially construction materials and buildings.
