美国Sandia实验室的工程技术人员设计了一种新型的镶有金刚石的链形钻头。这种钻头虽然毫无例外地无法避免磨损,但却可以大大减少更换钻头的次数。这种钻头由若干块21/4″×11/2″的钢节组成。钢节相互连接形成一条连续的钢链,安装在钻头内。每次只有五块钢节外露于钻头的半球形湍头上,构成切削头。当一个切削头磨损后,可在地面上遥控转动钢链,把另一个新切削头转动到预定位置。
Engineers at Sandia Laboratories in the United States designed a new type of diamond-shaped chain bit. Although this type of drill bit is without exception inevitable wear, but it can greatly reduce the number of drill bit replacement. This bit consists of several 21/4 “x 11/2” steel sections. Steel sections are interconnected to form a continuous steel chain that fits inside the drill bit. Each time only five steel sections are exposed on the hemispherical turbulent head of the drill to form a cutting head. When a cutting head is worn, the steel chain can be remotely controlled on the ground and another new cutting head is rotated to a predetermined position.
