The Shanghai Urban Underground Space Research and Development Center co-founded by the Science and Technology Commission of the Shanghai Municipal Construction Commission and Tongji University was officially established on October 28, 1998. Leaders of the Office of Underground Space Development and Utilization of the Ministry of Construction, leaders of the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission and the Municipal Construction Committee, leaders of the district construction commissions, and planning bureaus attended the inaugural meeting. The center will closely integrate with the actual needs of Shanghai’s urban construction and underground space development and utilization, and conduct industrialization of research findings to directly guide the actual development and utilization of underground space in Shanghai.
