太谷县,商时为箕子之国,春秋时晋大夫阳处父邑,故曰阳邑。净信寺所存唐碑中亦有“即此阳邑古城,阳字□□□阳处父望在北平食邑,此城因以字之从”之语。1汉置阳邑县,至隋开皇十八年(598)改曰太谷,延至今日。此地历史上一直属太原郡或太原府或并州,明清时期仍属太原府。阳邑镇位于太谷县城东7.5公里
