梭罗:值得关注的美国经典作家亨利·戴维·梭罗(Henry David Thoreau,1817—1862),是目前国内最广为人知的美国19世纪作家之一。梭罗研究专家斯蒂芬·哈恩认为,只有爱伦·坡(Allan Poe)的名望和价值才能与之相比。著名小说家约翰·厄普代克(John Updike,1932—)在为新版的《瓦尔登湖》作序时指出,在19世纪美国文学经典作家如爱默生、霍桑、惠特曼、麦尔维尔等人之中,梭罗对美国的思想与文学贡献最大,是美国国民性格的杰出代表和源泉。
Thoreau: The notable American classic writer Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) is one of the most widely known 19th century American writers in the 19th century. Thoreau research expert Stephen Hahn believes that only Allan Poe’s reputation and value can be compared. The famous novelist John Updike (1932-), in his preface to the new edition of Walden Lake, points out that in the 19th century American literary classics such as Emerson, Hawthorne, Whitman, Among them, Thoreau made the most contribution to the thought and literature of the United States and is an outstanding representative and source of the American national character.
