If the first generation of migrant workers in China still want to go back to the outflowing places, that is, their origin, then the second generation or new migrant workers are mostly unwilling or no longer going to go back. As early as 1999, when I was investigating Shuangqiao Village Footwear Base in the outskirts of Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, I interviewed migrant workers at the base. Among all the subjects I interviewed. Except for a couple, all other interviewees said they no longer wanted to go back to their hometown and would not go back to their homeland even if they could not find any employment opportunities. Multiple surveys by the author, including the double-bridge survey mentioned above, show that these migrant workers are not able to truly integrate into the area, but they are eager to integrate into it. Qian Wenrong and Zhang Zhongming’s research supported the author’s observations and judgments: migrant workers “have a strong desire to integrate into their cities. 73.61% of the surveyed farmers are willing to increase their contacts with local urban residents, 67.31% of them enter the cities Farmers want to be part of the city ”.
