抑制裂变型聚变增殖堆能给10个以上同规模的水堆补给燃料,借助于水堆的经济性能而具有经济上的可行性。设计了这类型的磁镜增殖堆CHD。等离子体半径48厘米,中心室长128米。采用Be作中子增殖剂,生产U-233加浓燃料直接用于水堆。本设计通过燃料增殖剂Th的适当的布置使靠近等离子体区域的裂变得到抑制。U-233在包层中的浓度分布较均匀,因而包层可以整体装卸料。年产U-233 4200kg。此外进行了热工水力、应力、屏蔽、氚在堆中的分布与漏失、放射性、停堆余热和剂量率、电站费用和经济性等分析计算。
