This article introduces three core concepts in Bourdieu’s sociology (field, habitus, capital) and their application in translation studies. Specifically speaking, from a macro perspective, we use Waley’s translation of Hanshan Mountain poems as an example to analyze Wieley’s text selection strategy and its causes by using the three core concepts of Bourdieu’s sociology. Through the analysis, it is found that the translator’s text selection strategy is influenced by the translator’s field, the translator’s capital, and the translator’s habit. Therefore, the translator’s text selection strategy is not an occasional choice, but the inevitable result of the combined effect of field, habit, capital and other factors.
