如今小孩儿上学真是什么都贵，开销大那是不在话下。学费神马的暂且不提，校服都贵得让人“伤不起”啊！
Interviewer: Now it’s that time of year again when many parents are getting their children ready for the new school term. In Scotland, they are back this week and a new survey out this week also shows over half of families are on average income, are struggling to cope with the cost of school uniforms. Now, according to the charity Save the Children, many will cut back on other essentials, like food, to cope.
We’re going to be talking to the Spinks family in just a few minute’s time, they’ll join us on the sofa, looking very smart in their new school uniforms. The family has been hit by the 1)credit crunch, like many families up and down the UK, and they have been counting the costs of these uniforms for us.
Back to school can be an expensive time for mums and dads. Most schools want children to have their logo on the uniform, which comes from a specific supplier, and that drives up the cost.
Cameron Spinks: My name is Cameron Spinks, and I’m gonna be in year two in September. My 2)jumper cost eight pound fifty. My PE shorts cost four pounds fifty and my bag cost three pounds.
Charlotte Spinks: I’m Charlotte, I’m going into reception. My 3)cardigan costs eight pound fifty. My book bag have cost three pound fifty.
Mum Sarah says it would cost her nearly 150 pounds to 4)kit out the kids in everything the school wants them to have, and that they just cannot afford.
Interviewer: What a lovely family. Well, Sarah Spinks and her children, Cameron and Charlotte, join us now. Cameron was telling me that you’ve both got the same bag, is that right? It’s very big. Is it very heavy bag to carry? Gosh it looks, doesn’t it? Well you both look very smart. Are you looking forward to going back to school?
Cameron&Charlotte: Yes.
Interviewer:And you’re starting, Charlotte, aren’t you?
Charlotte: Yeah.
Interviewer: Wow, gonna meet lots of lovely new friends, aren’t you? Sarah, thanks very much for inviting us into your home and also bringing your lovely children in this morning.
Sarah Spinks: Thank you.
Interviewer: It all adds up, doesn’t it?
Sarah: It certainly does.
Interviewer: How much do you think it’s gonna cost, in total, when you get Cameron and Charlotte properly kitted out?
Sarah: Trying to get everything what I should have is gonna be about 150 pounds, I think, for a term.
Interviewer: Wow.
Sarah: And it’s gonna be…to get things, say for three weeks, sorry, three days a week, something like that, and it’s gonna be, because you have to wash things so frequently—the kids, obviously, they make a mess…
Interviewer: Yes!
Sarah: …to wash them as well, you need them to be quite good quality, and the quality of them are not very good.
Interviewer: Well, let’s have a look. I don’t know if we get one of our cameras just to…to zoom in. Cameron, do you mind if we have a look at your little 5)cuffs there, because this is a shirt, or a jumper, I should say, that you bought in summer.
Sarah: This is for…they’re from summer term, absolutely.
Interviewer: Now, you’ve been nibbling, haven’t you? Getting a bit hungry before lunch. You can already see that they’re a little bit worn, aren’t they? So I suppose, you’re right, aren’t you? Every couple of months you’re gonna have to buy a new jumper for Cameron.
Sarah: I have to keep replacing them and obviously they cost a hell of a lot more money than if you’re going to go through supermarkets or anything like that.
Interviewer: This is the big thing, isn’t it? You’ve got the suggestion of buying from the supermarket, which is a lot cheaper, isn’t it, than going to either the school itself or going to a stockers that the school recommends, which I think your school recommends you sending…
Sarah: Recommends, that’s right.
Interviewer: Ok, because you’ve got the logo—a very smart logo it has to be said—on the…on the jumper there. So what would you rather schools do to help you out, do you think?
Sarah: I think either if we have to have the logo on the shirts, on the polo shirts, give us a quality product, something that’s got some durability about it so that it will last a lot longer than it is. Other than that, then please give us the option to keep on using the supermarkets for the prices that they’re giving us.
Interviewer: Yeah. And we’ve had lots and lots of e-mails and text messages on this issue, Sarah. Lots of mums agreeing with you, but lots of mums also saying school uniforms are really good, aren’t they, because they’re a really good leveler…
Sarah: Absolutely.
Interviewer: …and they make kids feel very proud of the school they go to.
Sarah: That’s absolutely right. And I think…
Interviewer: That’s something you wouldn’t disagree with?
Sarah: I don’t disagree with that at all because I think every child, when they’re going to school, they need to all look the same, not trying to have somebody with a more expensive top or to try and stand out from each other. I do believe in that, but we just need the quality behind it. Just, you know, to be good for them as well, sort of thing. Good for the mums! For the washing!
Interviewer: Yeah, something that’s gonna last. Something that’s gonna last the rough and 6)tumble of the playground.
