In the teaching of traditional universities, architecture and civil engineering are completely separated and generally divided into architecture and civil engineering. When architecture and civil engineering were separated, the trained architects and engineers overemphasized the importance of the profession because they did not understand each other’s profession and interests, and they could not coordinate with each other. In order to solve this contradiction, the Dortmund University of the Federal Republic of Germany put forward a new idea in the teaching of civil engineering. After several years of practice, it has been called the “Dortmund model” and has been welcomed by the society.
