News critic Xu Cheng-cheng’s “old newspaper reported the sea” is worth the repeated chewing. What readers can see in this memoir is not just the newspaper experience and skills of the older journalists, but also the history of the hardships, resistance and projection of honest, progressive reporters throughout the process. Some of the old newspapers in the sea are autobiographical articles about the writer’s own life and work.
