New Urbanists advocate the use of grid roads instead of curvilinear end-use networks to increase road connectivity to facilitate slow traffic in the community. In this paper, we select three residential areas in Texas, USA and use GIS tools to measure five indicators that can promote slow-moving traffic. It is found that although the grid has advantages in street connectivity and reachability, Mixed use and slow traffic infrastructure construction, grid road network and can not promote residents to choose slow traffic travel. China needs to learn from the lessons of suburbanization in the United States and promote sustainable modes of transport and travel in the fields of macroscopic land use, traffic structure and public policies.
