吮拇癖多见于1岁以内的小儿,尤其在饥饿时,常常吮拇指或其他手指,以自宽慰;如果别人强行阻止,则必然引起情绪上的不满。吮拇指是生后“生理反射”的结果。吮拇癖也可见于2~5岁的小儿,尤其在疲劳、厌倦、疾病、恐惧或受到成人惩罚之后,可出现吮拇指的幼稚动作。一般地说,在出恒齿之前,如有吮拇癖对孩子无害,个别的被子可因长期刺激,造成经常吸吮的局部软组织增生。如果这种习惯在出恒齿之后还继续存在,则可影响下颌的发育,以致上下牙齿对合不齐而造成畸形。
