Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and side effects of 0.5% timolol gel in reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) and compare it with 0.5% timolol eye drops. Methods: 46 cases of 86 eyes with cross self before and after the control method for clinical validation. The gel group was treated with 0.5% timolol ophthalmic gel, 1 time / d, 1 drop / time; the eye drops group was treated with 0.5% timolol eye drops, 2 times / d, 1 drop / time, treatment for 1 week, before and after the control interval of 3 days. Results: ① The average intraocular pressure (IOP) of the gel group was (27.05 ± 14.27)% and that of the eye drops group was (23.44 ± 12.54)%, the difference was significant (P <0.05) The effective rates of the two groups were 69.8% and 58.1%, respectively. The effective rates were 87.2% and 86.0% respectively. There was no significant difference between the two groups (P> 0.05) Adverse reactions were all transient partial discomfort, the incidence rates were 8.7%, 2.2%, no significant difference between the two groups (P> 0.05); ④ gel group and eye drops on the seventh day after treatment Heart rate were (75.11 ± 8.91) / min and (73.41 ± 8.95) times / min, respectively, with significant difference (P <0.05). CONCLUSION: 0.5% timolol gel is effective in lowering intraocular pressure and is easy to use with less adverse effects of slowing heart rate.
