Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen, Today, the inaugural International Rice Convention opens in Beijing. First of all, on behalf of the Chinese government, I, on my own behalf, extend my sincere welcome to all the participants here. Warm congratulations to the congress! Rice is the most edible and the oldest crop in the world. Ninety percent of the world’s rice is produced in Asia, raising 2.5 billion people. Rice plays an important role in the agricultural development and historical civilization of various Asian countries. National scientists, entrepreneurs, governments
