SIRE and Talon Gold were among the first “Space Experiment Plans” (STP) to be tested on a space shuttle and will continue into the mid-1980s. Gold-berg, deputy director of technical planning at the Air Force Space Department, told the newspaper that the first batch of SIRE flight tests in at least three batches was conducted as quickly as 1983, depending on funding. This is postponed for at least two years compared to the original plan. Originally planned to launch a free-flying SIRE satellite in 1981, the lack of funds for the spacecraft contract at Lockheed Martin Missile Space Company was reported. The mission of Hughes Aircraft Company to develop the SIRE detector is scheduled to be used to detect and track space targets
