Latin American countries continued their growth trend in 2005 and their economic policies were adjusted step by step. The political situation is generally stable and the trend toward left-wing development continues to develop. As governments increasingly pay attention to social issues, social reform still has a long way to go. The Fourth Summit of the Americas has brought changes to the relations between the United States and Latin America and the relations between China and Latin America have been strengthened. In the past year, a series of major events in Latin American countries will have a profound impact on the development of the regional situation in the future. The magazine invited Wu Guoping, director of the economic department of Latin American Institute of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Yuan Dongzheng, director of the Political Department, Liu Jixin, director of the social and cultural office, and He Shuangrong, director of the International Relations Department, to take stock of the situation in Latin America in 2005 and analyze the trend in the coming period.
