评述塞缪尔·格林的《美国公共图书馆运动(1853-1893)》学术价值与历史意义,唤起更多的图书馆史研究者对美国公共图书馆运动的关注和重视,并引导学者投身于这一主题的研究与探索当中。采用文献调查法和历史研究法,分析《美国公共图书馆运动(1853-1893)》的写作特点及存在的不足。《美国公共图书馆运动(1853-1893)》具有叙述的时序性、记录的真实性以及评价的客观性等特点,同时也存在着没有说明公共图书馆运动的起源、没有阐述早期公共图书馆的主要形态和对公共图书馆运动的理解存在片面性的不足。它的出版在美国图书馆史的写作上具有特殊的历史地位。
Commenting on the academic value and historical significance of Samuel Green’s “American Public Library Movement (1853-1893)”, arouse more and more attention of library history researchers to the American public library movement and guide scholars to devote themselves to Among the research and exploration on this topic.
