The past 2005 has undoubtedly been a fruitful year for China’s foreign trade. First of all, in 2005, China’s foreign trade extended its rapid growth in previous years. Since 2000, except for the cooling of the global economy in 2001, the total volume of China’s trade in goods was only increased by 7.5% in the year. The trade in other years witnessed an increase of more than 20% in each of the other years, exceeding 30% in 2000, 2003 and 2004 respectively. In 2005, China’s foreign trade volume reached 1,422.1 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 23.2 percent over the previous year. Among them, exports reached 762 billion U.S. dollars, up 28.4 percent, imports reached 66.01 billion U.S. dollars, up 17.6 percent, and its trade surplus was 101.9 billion U.S. dollars. Even more gratifying than the growth in scale is the continuous optimization of China’s foreign trade commodity structure. From 2001 to 2004, China’s export commodity structure has been significantly optimized, highlighting the mechanical and electrical products and high-tech products in total exports
