The utility of neoclassical economics Labor supply theory implicitly assumes that workers are free to choose their working hours to maximize their utility, independent of the labor market system. This paper presents four evidences that the labor market system has a significant impact on labor supply: the working hours of workers are affected by the average working hours of the industry; while the relative health status of women has less impact on the working hours of male workers, while the impact on labor force participation is less Large, because the male labor market is more restrictive of workers’ working time; the shadow price of time is obviously lower than the market wage rate, which is contrary to the complete choice of workers for working hours. There is a clear gap between the actual working hours and the working hours.
