存在主义认为现代人总是面对要成为自己同时又不得不生活在有限的处境中的荒谬。这也是索尔.贝娄最关注的人生状态。贝娄深受存在主义的影响,他的小说描写现代人的精神苦难,深切关注人类生存的普遍困境,其作品中的人物总在寻求自我,他们一开始与环境格格不入,历经苦苦挣扎,又最终回到现实。本文以《赫索格》、《只争朝夕》和《晃来晃去的人》等三部作品为代表,从寻找立足点、与自身的疏离、可怕的自由等方面探讨了作品中人物的自我寻求。
Existentialism holds that the modern people always face the absurdity of becoming themselves while at the same time having to live in limited circumstances.
