In order to help low-income groups solve their housing problems, the Brazilian government started to implement the “My Home, My Life” housing plan in 2009, but the plan has been criticized from the very beginning. Instead of benefitting the groups most in need of housing, critics argue that the strange picture has been created: the crumbling shanties in the slums are full of people, and the well-equipped new residential buildings are uninhabited.
