As a poet, Zhong Ling began to write at the end of the 1960s. His poems show two distinctive themes: one is the exploration of the social theme of wandering and root-seeking; the other is the writing of the theme of life between two sexes. Both constitute the main stream of poetry of Zhong Ling’s poetry. “Rootlessness” and “root-seeking” are cultural attitudes common to both “wandering Chinese” who have traveled from mainland China to Taiwan or from Taiwan to other nations in the period of the rupture of history in China.
