In Flannery O’Connor’s novels, violence is a test of piety for people’s religious beliefs and is a tool for people to achieve their benefits and redemption. Violence gives the people in the novel a brief period of time to confront their inner paucity and allow them to test their secular life. It is worth mentioning that violence in O’Connor’s novel uses satirical comedies as a means of expression, and that violence ultimately results in salvation. Based on the relevant researches, this thesis aims to analyze four aspects of the theme of violence: the background, the intent and the means, with O’Connor’s few novels as an example. The purpose of this article is to reveal the theme implied behind the violence.
