乐器改革持续到19世纪,单簧管亦不例外。其领军人物是伊凡·缪勒(1786-1854年),一位杰出的演奏家兼乐器制造大师。他在改革中面临的难题与各式长笛,舌簧吹奏乐器的改进课题相类似。莫扎特时代,那种5-6键古典单簧管已满足不了新的演奏需要。主要的症结是音孔排列系统不佳,是按照演奏者手指肚定的,音孔大小也是如此,因此不可能完全盖住。这不符合音响学法则:孔径过窄,像是人为地把音孔紧密地排列在音管上(曾要求成为想象中的斜形孔),这样便使音色变味,音列不稳定,音准有误。
Instrument reform lasted until the 19th century, clarinet was no exception. Its leader is Ivan Muller (1786-1854), an accomplished performer and master of musical instruments. The problems he faced in the reform were similar to the improvement topics of all kinds of flute and reed instrument. Mozart era, the kind of 5-6 key classical clarinet can not meet the new performance needs. The main problem is that the sound hole arrangement system is poor, according to the fingers of the performer, as well as the size of the sound hole, so it is impossible to completely cover it. This is not in line with the laws of sound: aperture is too narrow, like artificially arranged sound hole on the sound tube (had been asked to become the oblique hole), so that it will make the sound taste, sound unstable, error.
