Ren Zhengfei, founder and CEO of Huawei Technologies, is acknowledged the most infl uential business leader in China, according to the latest ranking released by business magazine Fortune’s Chinese edition.
Pony Ma Huateng, founder and CEO of tech giant Tencent, came in second, followed by Chen Dongsheng, founder, Chairman and CEO of Taikang Insurance Group. Alibaba Chairman Jack Ma grabbed the fourth place.
These business leaders’ values were refl ected not only in the successful moments of their companies but also, more importantly, in their willingness to face challenges as well as help their companies through a crisis, find new direction and stride for the next success, Fortune China said.
Born in 1944 in southwest China’s Guizhou Province, Ren founded Huawei in Shenzhen, south China’s Guangdong Province, in 1987.
Huawei has become the world’s second largest smartphone maker, following Apple. The company is also investing heavily in 5G technology.
  Black Hole Spat
  Qianjiang Evening News April 12
Although ordinary people have only a patchy understanding of black holes, when the fi rst photograph of a black hole was released, it began to go viral on social media platform WeChat. Many of these postings by institutions served the purpose of self-promotion.
The Visual China Group, a Beijing-based photo and media agency, issued a statement to the effect that it has the image copyright from the European Southern Observatory, the intergovernmental agency whose scientists obtained the groundbreaking black hole image recently. But the latter said on its offi cial website that as long as users clearly credit the source, the image is available free.
Images, different from text, are often reproduced and people seldom think of their copyright. In most cases, no one pays any attention to the photographer or maker of images they fi nd online.
Some visual agencies deliberately post innovative images online without any proprietary marks. However, they keep close track of the use of these images. Once they have evidence that these images have been used by others, they ask for damages.
In this sense, the copyright dispute over the black hole image is probably not a bad thing. It alerts more people to phishing scams and at the same time, also reminds them of the importance of respecting copyrights.
  Xiongan’s Turn
  China Newsweek April 8
April 1 marked the second anniversary of Xiongan New Area in Hebei Province, north China. Though everything seems to have remained unchanged on this 2,000-square-km plot, internally, Xiongan is experiencing profound changes, and new forces are gathering. The designing and planning of the new area at the top level has ended, and the period of largescale construction will start soon. In the past two years, more than 1,000 domestic and foreign experts, over 200 teams and more than 2,500 technological professionals were invited by the Hebei Provincial Government for the design and planning. Everything is to be pushed forward steadily and every minute should be seized.
However, the construction should not be rushed through. The new area’s long-term development and prosperity outweigh short-term achievements, so there must be careful designing and a solid foundation for the area’s sustainability.
System innovation is the priority. Great importance has been attached to the model of urban development, particularly, ensuring that the area’s houses are used for living and not for speculation. Xiongan will integrate land resources, capital, human resources, information and technology to create a new way to manage and run the area.
The new area will pursue a marketoriented road, dispensing with the old format of attracting investment and requiring administrative orders. From the very start, Xiongan’s development is based on the market mechanism.
  Occupational Upgrade
  People’s Daily April 16
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security has announced that 13 new occupations have been added to the occupational inventory. They include artificial intelligence engineering, electronic sports and operating industrial robots.
The inventory mirrors social development, keeping up with the times. The jobs of telephone and paging operators have been removed from the inventory, while new occupations like express courier have been added. Occupation upgrading is an inevitable result of industrial upgrading.
Jobs involving simple and repetitive work will be replaced, while traditional industries will be equipped with new technologies. Individual interests will also guide young people to new occupations, like bartending and pet grooming.
However, not all people are happy to see the arrival of new occupations as those engaged in outdated occupations are likely to lose their jobs. Nevertheless, on the whole, as long as new occupations are created, people will have more job opportunities.
The birth of new occupations is not only related to employment but also labor division. Therefore there should be vocational guidance and colleges should provide new programs and training. At the same time, individuals must explore their own professional areas to enhance their skills. In this way, new occupations will keep bringing new benefi ts to individuals and society alike.
