世界上第一台家用VCD机诞生于中国合肥的“万燕”之手,“万燕”让中国的老百姓认识了VCD,并开创了中国的VCD行业。灵感+机遇=初次成功合肥“万燕”的创始人是姜万劲,大学毕业后分到安徽电视台搞技术工作。1987年,他创办安徽现代电视技术研究所,1992年4月,姜万劲前往美国参加国际广播电视技术展览会,他最强烈的感受是:世界的趋势从模拟技术转向数字技术。正是在这次展览会上,美国C-CUBE公司展出的一项不起眼的技术-MPEG解压缩技术引起姜万劲的注意。由于图像信息在存储时所占空间较大,不经过压缩就必须用比较大的光盘来存储,成本带贵。这就是LD大影碟迟迟走不进百姓家庭的主要原因,而12cm的CD盘存储量,只能存5分钟的图像,或74分钟的声音,不能满足人们一边看一边听的需求。姜万劲敏锐地感受到:MPEG技术意味着可以把图像和声音存储在一张比较小的光盘里,创造出一种物美价廉的视听产品。C-CUBE公司的董事长孙燕生是美籍华商,两人一拍即合,将MPEG技术开发为电子消费产品,而当时世界上根本没有VCD这个概念。姜万劲当即投资7万美
