The crust and upper mantle density distribution is very uneven. At a minimum, some of the tectonic forces originated from the gravitational effects of the density structure of the crust and the upper mantle. The seismic energy that occurs in response to these gravitational forces comes ultimately from the gravitational potential of its density structure. This seismic energy can come directly from the gravitational potential without having to indirectly pass through the middle of the elastic strain field. The proposed mechanism contains a local attenuation of the gravitational potential of a fault along the gravitationally unstable density structure. The actual deformation accompanied by the release of gravitational potential and elastic strain increased, and further the fault movement due to the elastic strain of stress was suspended.
