Objective To study the toxic effects of bensulfuron on embryonic development of zebrafish. Methods The water-bath method was used to inoculate the zebrafish eggs within 2 hours after fertilization to six exposure groups at concentrations of 204, 0, 60, 80, 100 and 120 mg.L-1 respectively. At the same time, Set 0 mg.L-1 as the control group. The embryonic developmental toxicity of bensulfuron-methyl on zebrafish was studied by statistical evaluation of cumulative mortality, hatchability, developmental malformation and malondialdehyde (MDA) content. Results The concentration of bensulfuron-methyl ≥100 mg.L-1 significantly inhibited the zebrafish embryo development, and the abnormalities of spine, pericardial cyst edema and syncytia were observed in zebrafish. When the concentration of bensulfuron-methyl was ≥80 mg.L-1, the zebrafish embryo hatching rate was significantly reduced. Bensulfuron-methyl concentration of ≥ 60mg.L-1, zebrafish embryonic mortality increased significantly. At 108 hpf, MDA content in zebrafish juveniles increased with the increase of exposure concentration, and showed a certain dose-response relationship. Conclusion Bensulfuron-methyl has some inhibitory effects on the early stage of zebrafish’s life.
