王维的诗,不论是山水田园诗,还是抒情诗都善于将主观的情与客观的境融合统一,既含蓄蕴藉,极富“言外之意”,又传神优美,具有自然之美。王诗不仅融入了画家和诗人的情思,又渗透了深刻的禅思体悟,因而达到了一种心境美与自然美和谐统一的纯美境界。在他创造的明秀诗境中,既有澄明精致的画面,又有飘渺灵动的情韵,能于空静中传出动荡,平淡里透出幽深。这种镜花水月般的诗歌意境表现的是诗人静观寂照时感受到自然界的宁静优美,是以动写静,喧中求寂,超以象外而入于诗心的空明与寂静之禅悦之境。虽然盛唐山水田园诗人的作品多带有禅意和禅趣,但像王维那样直接契入空灵禅境的并不很多。王维诗独具特色的宁静和谐与空灵意境,使山水田园诗的发展达到了一个高峰,也成就了在中国山水田园诗发展史上他人难以企及的正宗地位。
