The Appalachian Mountains are part of the highlands of eastern North America. The mountainous Appalachian Mountains, extending from northeast to southwest, are roughly parallel to the coast. It starts from the west of Newfoundland in Canada to the north and reaches the middle of Alabama in southeastern United States, about 3 000 kilometers in length. The mountain range is about 130 km to 160 km wide in Canada and the United States New England region, with a maximum of more than 500 km to the south
