Nematodes are multicellular animals on Earth with an estimated 500,000 species that occur widely in various settings. Some live freely in the oceans, freshwater or soil, and some are parasites of animals and plants. The earliest human parasitic nematode discovered in history was recorded in the Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Internal Medicine in China around 2700 BC. Parasitic nematodes were also mentioned in early Egyptian data in 4500 BC. As early as more than 100 years ago, British Isles and European scholars started to study plant parasitic nematodes, but it was not until the middle of this century that it was widely recognized that nematodes are plant diseases
