Many copper, lead and zinc orebodies are produced in carbonate rocks. Carbonates often form in warm sea waters far from the land, but there are also some special carbonates associated with terrigenous sedimentary rocks that contain periodic signs of subtidal-intertidal-tidal deposition. The Trucial Coast of the Persian Gulf in the Persian Gulf provides us with a modern example of a combination of these environments. According to Dr. Renfro, the sediments in these environments are somewhat similar to those of stratiform copper deposits. In 1974, he suggested that some of the ongoing effects of the modern environment (such as the emergence of the Trucial Riviera) could lead to the formation of some deposits . In Renfro mode, groundwater flowing to the sea leaches copper and other metals from the sediments of the coastal plains and transports them to the onshore edge of the marine carbonate sediments that form tidal zones. There, these metals are buried by algaeplants
