“American gods” is a masterpiece of British fantasy literature writer Neil Gaiman, won a number of literary awards since its publication in 2001. This essay focuses on exploring the pluralistic characteristics of the American nation and culture as elaborated by the American religious history of immigrants’ myths and the inevitability of the religious culture evolving over time. This seemingly paradoxical view of pluralism and assimilation reflects not only the contemporary philosophical thinking of social history and culture but also the embodiment of the author’s concept of development. This serious historical theme has led this novel to break through the serious and popular boundaries of literary works and demonstrate the charm of this cross-genre of refined and popular music.
