有关张大千的书籍可谓汗牛充栋,之夥之杂,在众多近现代画家中,无出其右者。笔者在梳理近现代书画史料之馀,偶尔涉及数种类乎年谱年表的书籍,总有一种诡异的感觉。所谓诡异,类乎当下戏说古代皇帝的影视作品,故事多,可读性强。可是人生一世,哪里来的这么多故事?笔者没有研究过张大千,可张大千仍然屡屡出现在史料里。这里指的史料,是即时记载而非前尘依稀下的口述。口述并非不可成为历史,那只是在史实湮没无存的情况下,不得已的补充。如果大半依靠这类材料而筑构一个人的历史,那就戏说多而
