Objective: To investigate the role and significance of phospholipase A2 (PLA2) in children with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Methods: Serum levels of PLA2 in 26 children with MODS were detected by ELISA in 20 critically ill patients and 20 healthy children. Results: PLA2 levels in children with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome were significantly higher than those in control group (P <0.01), and positively correlated with the score of critical illness. Conclusion: PLA2 is involved in the pathophysiological process of MODS, which is related to the condition of critical illness and can be used as an experimental parameter for early warning of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome.
