The first reported strain of Melanin was found in 1897. Pseudomonas aeruginosa producing melanin can be found in different diseases: female genital inflammation, meningitis, sepsis, chronic pyelonephritis, malignant tumors. These bacteria often do not have some peculiar species characteristics, and therefore difficult to identify. At present, the antibacterial properties of melanin and its interaction with antibacterials are widely studied. Synthetic melanin inhibits the antibacterial activity of some antibiotics in vitro. Some fungal melanins, bacterial melanins and synthetic melanins do not have antimicrobial properties.
